Your 2026 Ballot
Everything Indiana voters can expect to see on this year's ballot.
Find your races
Enter your Indiana address to see exactly which races are on your ballot.
Indiana's ballot is more complicated than it looks. Some races are on the primary ballot. Others — like Secretary of State — are decided at party conventions most voters never see. Some seats are so safe that the primary is the election. And this year, a set of state senate primaries driven by redistricting revenge and dark money will shape Indiana politics for a generation.
This page lays out what's actually on your ballot, what isn't, the key dates you need, and how to vote. Every race links to a full breakdown with sourced candidate profiles so you can go as deep as you want.

The Rest of Your Ballot
The offices below won't make the news, but they're the ones that decide whether your roads get fixed, your property taxes go up, and whether the local justice system works. Here's what each one does and how to find out who's running in your area.
County Sheriff
Runs the county jail, serves warrants, and patrols unincorporated areas. In many Indiana counties, the sheriff is the single most powerful law enforcement official — they set priorities for what gets investigated and how the jail is run. A sheriff who ignores mental health calls handles them differently than one who doesn't.
What to look for: Jail conditions record, use-of-force policies, cooperation with federal agencies (ICE detainers), budget management, whether they've been sued and for what.
County Prosecutor
Decides which cases to charge and which to drop. This is arguably the most consequential criminal justice role in your county. Prosecutors set plea bargain policies, decide whether to pursue drug diversion programs, and choose whether to enforce certain laws aggressively or not at all.
What to look for: Conviction rate vs. dismissal rate, stance on diversion programs, how they handle police misconduct cases, caseload management, any disciplinary history with the bar.
Circuit & Superior Court Judges
Handle everything from divorces to felonies to property disputes. In most Indiana counties, these are elected in partisan primaries — meaning the primary may be the real election. Exceptions: Lake and St. Joseph counties (gubernatorial appointment), Vanderburgh (nonpartisan), and Marion (merit selection).
What to look for: Years of legal experience, types of cases handled, any disciplinary actions from the Indiana Commission on Judicial Qualifications, endorsements from the local bar association, sentencing philosophy.
County Commissioner & County Council
Commissioners (3-member board) manage county operations — roads, buildings, contracts, zoning. The County Council (7 members) controls the budget and sets tax rates. Together they determine how your property tax dollars get spent. One commissioner seat and some council seats are up in 2026.
What to look for: Voting record on budgets and tax rates, stance on development and zoning, any conflicts of interest with county contractors, meeting attendance.
County Auditor, Treasurer, Recorder & Assessor
These "row offices" handle the county's financial machinery. The Auditor manages payroll and accounts. The Treasurer collects property taxes and manages investments. The Recorder files deeds, mortgages, and liens. The Assessor determines property values — which directly sets your property tax bill.
What to look for: Professional qualifications (CPAs, certified assessors), modernization plans, audit history, whether they've lost track of public money or had assessment appeals overturned.
Township Trustee & Advisory Board
Indiana's 1,006 townships are the smallest unit of government, and some of the least watched. The Trustee administers emergency assistance (rent, utilities, food) for residents in crisis and may manage fire protection, parks, and cemeteries. The Advisory Board (3 members) oversees the trustee's budget. These offices fly completely under the radar, which is exactly why some townships have had serious mismanagement problems.
What to look for: How they handle poor relief requests, budget transparency, any State Board of Accounts audit findings, whether the township has been flagged for unnecessary spending.
Party Business: Precinct Committeeperson & Convention Delegates
Precinct Committeeperson (Democratic ballot only in 2026): the ground-level party organizer for your voting precinct. They help select local party leadership and fill ballot vacancies. Convention Delegates (both parties): these delegates attend state conventions where they'll nominate candidates for Secretary of State, Treasurer, and Comptroller — offices that never appear on a primary ballot.
Why it matters: If you care who runs for statewide office, this is where it's actually decided. Most voters skip these lines on the ballot, which means a very small number of people make these choices.
